I got that message and am worried that it may indeed be scam.

However, I "only" gave address and date of birth data.... What can be done against me with that ? They sent me a second email (planet49) asking for more information, which i would never provide.

The email came from Lycos offer (partners@info.lycos.co.uk) and I trusted them because it was sending regular emails with possibility to unsubscribe.
The website planet49 were you are directed by the link seems to be genuine.
Is that a very clever plot kind of scam or are we just being too suspiciouskpvew ?

PLANET49 GmbH is a real company headquarted in Germany and NOT a scam. All the prises that we offer are real and will be given away at the end of every year. We have lawyers in the UK that have checked and continue to monitor all that we do. We do NOT just offer things to collect personal data and not deliver on our promises.

We do not ask for any money, but we do have partners that will contact the people in our database with offers. Anyone who wishes to unsubscribe can do this easily through the unsubscribe buttons at the end of every email we send.

I ask you to please stop posting incorrect messages about our company when you have obviously done nothing to collect facts.

Thank you, William (PLANET49)

I never signed up for this lot. It may be legal, but to me it's highly dodgy and the sort of thing not to be associated with.

It's all going to the Information Commissioner.

If they were a hundred percent kosher company, then William would have logged in or send me a personal e-mail.

Even better he could have sent me a letter.

But would that have too much information on it?

OK, I'm going to expose my naivete here. Recently, I came across a link to this website on Eurosport announcing that i had qualified for a draw. However, I was a bit wary, so I only filled the online form partially. When I clicked submit, the form did not go through, and I was asked to fill in the outstanding details.

Here's my question: would they still have got the info I filled in? Or, since the page was not saved (I guess), have I been spared a deluge of spam (or worse). Some of what I filled may have been true. I have been obsessing over this for a few days.

I just got this one, and its from a company whom I KNOW I have unsubscribed from - and fairly sure I never signed up to in the first place.

This stuff gets treated in the normal way - loud ridicule in the vicinity of my office followed by the DELETE key.

I got this message in my inbox:
Prize form for selected Internet user!

Title: Mr. Miss Mrs. Ms.
First Name:
Surname:
E-mail:

Should I win, please inform me immediately – I have read and accept the Conditions of Participation and Data Protection Notice. I agree to Planet49 contacting me via email, phone, SMS or mail to inform me if I win, and also allow Planet49 and their partners and sponsors to send me interesting offers using the same contacting methods.

I think it is a big fraud.

I don`t believe in `random selection of prizes` from a company I have never heard of or dealt with.
Today, I got an e-mail with the identical message & same `prize` but from customerservices@warmpit.com!
The address at the end is somewhere in Texas USA (not Germany)

Just clicked on IDMDb and a pop-up announced I am the 999,999 visitor (to what? IMDb?) and have won, or then again perhaps not, won an Audi A3.

The "prize" is from Planet49. Yeah. Sure. in Planet49's T&Cs are the following blatant get-outs:

1) You can't ever sue us for anything, so piss off.

2) If we have a problem with our computer at any time (like, er, we forget to turn it on) then the Prize Draw could be affected and so no "prizes" at all will be "awarded".

Planet49 is an email / phone number data harvester, a not-so subtle list broker for God knows how many "partners" and other third parties.

The opening splash screen is a scam (no-one has actually won anything) and the initial "winner registration" a further scam in that it's desitgned to lull you into thinking that's the *only* information Planet49 is after.

Of course it's not. Information as minimal as that is of no commercial value to anyone -- and definitely not worthy of "awarding" an Audi A3.

So what Planet49 then does is pretend the initial "registration" failed and more details are needed -- especially, your home telephone number.

ANYONE falling for a scam of this nature -- and yes, that's all it is: a sustained, deliberate, and systematic scam -- is a moron.

As to the sleazebag who posted here on behalf of Planet49, hey mate, you're the biggest moron of 'em all.

My wife has also just received a "notification" and her prizes. I suspect that Palnet49 is buying email addresses for next to nothing from unscrupulous parties and then mailing out rubbish!!! to me it is just more spam mail and an attempt to increase the level of it we receive. If they mail 1 Million people and 100 reply it is a win!!!
Regardless this is just a scam!!!

blatantly a SCAM, i googled it and it said planet49 was a company who has the biggest databases and are selling peoples details to companies in the UK, it said they have around 9 million 'customers' that grows by a thousand each day!
Unbeleivable, its obvious they are getting peoples information 'under false pretenses' legally and making a HUGE amount of money from it!
google it, the company who distributed peoples info on behalf of planet49 is wyvern co.or something like that.. DONT FALL FOR IT!!!!!

plus planet49 claims to be one of the best online 'marketing' companies in europe, what a JOKE!!!!
ie. they are supplying other companies with a HUGE consumer market base for ££££

Its a data harvester. Just fill in any old rubbish so they spend more time data cleansing than tricking the gullible into thinking they've actually won something.
Actually forcing you to accept the fact that they can use your information for direct marketing purposes is also illegal in the uk, as you must be able to opt-in, not be forced to opt-in.

Wednesday, June 04, 2008 1:14:00 pm
Anonymous Anonymous said...

All mails you get from Planet49 and any other UK marketing company by law have to be opted in by you.

I don't work for Planet49 but know how the industry works.

You may have opted into Planet49 on another site for example to be in with the chance of winning an Audi A3.

You can request this information from Planet49 who I'm sure will be happy to supply you.

If you do not wish to be contacted by them simply unsubscribe and give them a reasonable amount of time to process this request (say a 10 days). If you continue to get e-mails from them just let them know!

All companies in the data world need to be compliant with the DMA, if you have reason to believe they are not and bending any rules let the company know and contact the DMA if you don't get a satisfactory answer.

These companies sell consumer data purely on an opt-in basis - that is how they can purchase these vehicles, prizes etc. to give away.

Who would just give there data away in return for nothing ?? How do you think these companies can give £1,000's of pounds of prizes away every year ?? Also all of these sites have winner pages - do you think these people are complaining?

Finally just make it your rule that you won't opt into anything on any these sites and bail if someone tries to force opt you in - simple.

Then you won't get any e-mails apart form the company advertising their services to you!

Hope this helps. All the best.

For the person who said that he has given date of birth and the address, for his information- a lot of things can be done wih that information including opening an account in a bank in his name. A lot of personal information can be found using that. So refrain from giving personal information just like that.At the end of the day- nothing comes free.

Planet49, yes they are a real company, squirreled away in Germany and free to do what they want on the Internet and avoid UK law. I submitted bogus details to them a few weeks back with an email address of planet49@??????? and have started receiving unsolicited mail from other companies such as MRI Overseas Properties. They have no association with Planet49 so clearly Planet49 are selling email addresses to others. Of course, Planet49 will say they are a partner but then you could say anyone was your partner as they don't actually tell you who their partners are.

It is the same if you have ever ordered anything from a mail order catalogue. Automatically you suddenly receive several other mail order catalogues.

Sent me the same thing, if it is not a scam why use diffrent email addresses all the time. Also they should have a valid contact address within the UK / phone number. None of this is on the email so haven't even allowed the images to be downloaded. Using the ripe database and looking at the sorce code of the email it was sent from Netherlands.

They are clever tho the way they make their advertisements to be shown on other sites that use Adsense.

It's complete bullshit tho. I came across this site again, filled in the details with a temperorary email adres ( http://www.spamaccount.nl/ ) and noticed the big bullshit around it.

No wonder they have the biggest database in online marketing. They are claiming you can win some car or Plasma screen just to fill in your record(s). Out of these thousands records a day, they sell the list(s) towards any listbuyer that wants a potential customer for commercial purposes. I assume when such list(s) get sold for alot they can send out some prize, but i never readed anyone except for co-workers of planet49, claiming to actually won a price. Keep ranking this site up as people shoud'nt sign up to this bullshit.

The company is doing the rounds on the phones and give the company registration of 6004362 and a VAT registration number. They have small liability so getting money back is a no no.They cannot hang on to company secretaries and they have given the trading address as 273-287 Regent street London, BUT the call center is in Brighton. Here it comes the phone number given is 0844 880 2598 registered to DTD European Services Ltd. IF you dont get any joy there try the other number 02711 2001 100.Also have a look at www.whocallsme.co.uk . DO NOT GIVE BANK DETAILS TO ANYONE WHO CALLS YOU.

re: SCAM / FRAUD - PLANET 49 GMB!!!

Hi Everyone!
Im from Australia and was watching something on youtube..when a box on the right hand side of the tv screen was flashing with words saying:
"Dear internet user.
online right now at XX.XX am on ..blah, blah, blah date...etc...etc."
It was congratulating me saying I have been chosen to possibly win an LCD TV...

I thought, this is in youtube's site so it should be ok and genuine... so started filing in the first box with my name and email, then a second screen came up asking for other details inc my birthdate.. that's when I had a second thought and decided to GOOGLE their name LINKING with WORDS like 'LEGALITIES' etc... and I got here...
Like everyone else would like to thank you all for taking the time to share your experience with these SCAMMERS like PLANET49 GMB, because it helped me realised that this offer is definitely CRAP and 'crazy talk'.And worse, I can't believe YOUTUBE will allow such a scam... shame on them!!! This is not good for youtube's reputation.

Yup. Nothing comes for free and winning something for nothing is too good to be true!

Thanks! (- Anonymous from Australia)
* PS: Misleading people or hiding other info from people is still considered a 'fraud'!

People please just think! what kind of company that doesnt know YOU! doesnt care about YOU! doesnt want anything from YOU (but your personal details) would give you 20 grand Audi A3? who would be the stupid person to actually believe in that? who are you? notice how the first thing they ask on planet49 is your FIRST name, SURNAME then your email, thats it. then after your details. what kind of website is that, that just doesnt give you more options to navigate around it? it barely has anything! it somehow can efford to give you an expensive car and yet it cant even efford to make a good looking website? its as simple as this. you dont know me right? i dont know you too. you dont know the people who subscribe. so even if someone wins, you will never know. because the company knows that YOU will never know, then it doesnt give the prize to no one because everyone will think "she/he must of won the car instead" just put your friend on the other side of the wall and think "he must of won the prize" same as he will think to you "he must of won the prize" ! in UK all you need is your name, your address and your date of birth. then u can access everything like banks etc... these companys do indeed make money. but not legally...but because all this "underground" companys work all together, the "legal" companys that can sue these companys dont do nothing. anyways....

Got hooked up with them too. Started by playing an IQ test and then went on to fill in my name and date of birth but put in a wrong address and closed off the site when it started asking me to tick some other stuff that i would like to win. My alarm bells went off and so i closed the site but i had already given my name, mobile number and D.O.B but thankfully a friend's address in another part of town. Can they still use the details to do stuff? like do i need to change my bank details or stuff? Will definately watch out for their call.

For those of you out there who haven't been doing the maths lately or who have become visually impaired or plain cold stone deaf - All these information collecting agencies offering prizes as a front to their real agenda. It all comes frm the highest levels and yes it is all very legal in what definition of legality being. If it is from the government then it must be legal? But this company hasn't anything to do with the government, right? HA HA HA now who are the fools? What do you think these gene tests are all about? Why are you asked for your mothers maiden name or religion when signing secure forms etc? Come on people wake up for GOD sake - for Your sake!!! This is not a conspiracy from me but the new world order are after everyone's informaiton for a world accountability of lineage and personal associations so that we can be calssed into 3 main areas. The working bees, the administrators and the Gods at the top who we will be feeding ourselves to as this Antichrist cycle goes on and on. Has anyone been hearing rumors lately about the antichrist taking the seat or Rome as the new Pope????????? 2012... UFOs will be attacking earth very soon so the government can unite all nations to repel these (man made) invaders while the antichrist slips into world power. Then we are all DOOMED. That is what these information gathering gimics are all about. Mark my words or you'll be marked by the beast. Heaven is for all good people and religion has nothing to do with it. Just be honest and care about your fellow brothers and sisters in the civilian sense. Everything ese above us has already been infiltrated.

One BIG BIG clue.....

If the email or website aren't even the same. Smell the BS.

Have you contacted them?

Would you be wary of me asking you your details on the street?

The NET is a Lie. Do what I do. Lie back and watch the sunrise.

Also if someone can't spell 'Prizes' the aroma of BS is still in the air.

Good luck out there. It's a dangerous world and just as dogy on the net.

Hi I am also from Australia .planet49send premium SMS to people that have not subscribed and then bill you $6 au per SMS they send and continue to bill you until SMS them the word Stop .
My son is 26 and has autism and intellectual disability he startd to receive these SMS and just ignored them but the more he ignored them the more they sent so he came to me and said I don't know what these messages are but they won't stop sending them .so I sent SMS stating stop .
His Optus phone bill arrived and they have charged him $55 for SMS messages they have sent to his account .so I rang planet49 and told them I was taking them to court under the disability and mental health act and they said they were partners with Optus the phone service provider and that they would send a refund for half the money billed but couldn't refund any more because Optus were their partners and took the other half .i asked for the manager and the manager didn't exist and I asked for a reference number and they didn't exist either .i was called stupid and crazy when I told them they were scamming a disabled person and I would take it to the consumer watch dog fair trading and to scam watch .i contacted Optus and they rang planet49and got the same treatment and now we have been reissued a new bill with planet49 content billing and Optus is having a full enquiry into planet49 and it's business with Optus .
Not everyone that gets scammed bylanet49are morons some are very disabled .i have checked his phone records and at no point did he subscribe to these premium SMS .i really checked thoroughly .optus has placed a ban on all these 1900 SMS scams to his phone to protect .
It's disgraceful that they are even allowed to charge us for sending SMS to us , especially when you don't respond or agree to the subscription .i have reported it to scam watch and fair trading and now I wait to see if the government makes it illegal like it should be .
It's hard enuff keeping a person safe with autism without scammers on mobile phones doing it .

The Apple company's name is coming. So if this is fake i think the company should take some actions against those involved.

I'm from France and got the similar email in French language of cause, this planet 49 used another name and claimed to be the partner of an online shopping website from which I buy things, that's the only reason I kept the email and studied a bit. When I clicked into the link they let me chose the audi a3's colour then asked for me personal details, there I saw the game's organiser called planet49 and I Google it. I do believe this fraud company playing their scam all around Europe!

Not just Europe/Canada/Etc, I ended in such a page (planet49), once in a while, here in Brazil.
I think their formula is easy: They really deliver the prizes once a year (e.g. 2 cars, 10 ipads, 5 anything goodie), to be under the law. They receive millions of peoples personal data that makes much more money they had spent with the prizes. The form asks for very personal information so be aware they are using these info not just legally but illegally also. Like said other user: maybe legal but clearly immoral. Sorry for bad english, salutations !

I got an email run by Planet49 but the website is free-choice. It does seem legit-ish but I still wonder. They havent asked me for any payment details only my name DOB and address - may not have been a good idea the address bit but oh well im moving from that place anyway in a few months. Still they cant get much info from me and they cant access my birth certificate. All the info ive given them can only get me at my address which im not even gonna be there soon.

Hi, I found this complaint about the company on another site.
It states....Hi all,
Recently I saw some easy-to-get-your-attention ads banner on top of this forum.

I usually ignore such ads... but dont know why, few days ago the ads stated "stand a chance to win a Ipad"...
I clicked & registered.... nothing happened except getting some emails saying I stood a chance in a lucky draw.

Just 15mins ago, got a sms, asked me to register. Then later got another sms asking me a question, to answer TRUE or FALSE, & also stated RM4.00/sms. I replied, another sms with question came,... after answering 4-5 sms, I got suspicious, wanted to stop, but the sms said "you are one step away"... I answered altogether 12 sms, RM48 total... now no news!!
I checked the links in the emails I received & they traced back to a "registered company" Planet49 Asia Pacific Pte Ltd... not sure it actually exists.

I'm too stupid/greedy to believe. I want to warn all of you that do not fall for it... I hope I'm the ONLY one kena conned!! Crying or Very sad

....

LOOKS LIKE A SCAM

if it has anything at all to do with Planet49, it is likely to be dodgy. Be very careful.

Remember that your personal information and purchasing intentions constitutes valuable information. Don't give it away>
